Daily Shep on Fishing report: Surfcasters, boat captains looking for striper

It looks better today than Monday, when it was blowing a gale. Surfcasters are on the beach and captains headed out into the ocean. They are looking for striped bass.

Fred Hynes reported from Riptide Bait and Tackle in Brigantine that one nice bass was caught Monday on the front beach at Brigantine. It weighed 29 pounds, 3 ounces and was caught by Pete Mussa.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 215 and Kelly’s Corner Pub in Atlantic City run the ninth Veterans’ Striper Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds go to Veterans Haven in Winslow Township and Fisher House. The entry fee is $15 and angler can fish from boat, beach, dock, jetty. Sign up at Kelly’s, 2721 Arctic Ave., or Moose Lodge 216, 3900 West End Ave., both in A.C.
