An agreement to build a boat launch in Hansville is on hold after Kitsap sports fisherman objected to a change in its design.
The fishermen were upset because the change — made without public input or notification — would prevent most of them from launching their boats there.
As a result of their concerns, state Department of Fish and Wildlife officials and the county agreed last week to postpone moving forward with the agreement. A group of interested parties will be convened to review the project again. The group will include Hansville residents and sports fishermen.
County commissioners were set to approve the agreement with the state on Dec. 13. The agreement outlined the state’s plans to build a “hand launch” on the former Point No Point Resort property that it has owned since 1996.
