With strong winds and heavy seas reported over much of the past week, the number of reports from boat fishermen was limited. Catch reports from those willing to deal with the rough conditions indicated a bit of a slowdown in the striper action. Trollers pulling a mix of Mann’s Stretch plugs, Bombers, umbrella rigs, plastic shad bodies and Parachutes at Hens and Chickens Shoal, the area just southeast of the Indian River Bell Buoy, the Sea Colony Condos and Little Gull Bank scored on a few linesiders. Trolling the inshore waters also provided action on chopper bluefish. Bait fishermen reported keeper rockfish while fishing a mix of eels, black salties, bunker and mullet on fish finder rigs inside the three-mile limit. With water temperatures at the Delaware Lightship holding right around the 50-degree mark, anglers should be able to score on chopper bluefish at locations including McCrie Shoal, Five Fathom Bank, the Fenwick Shoal wrecks, the Bass Grounds and Great Gull Bank on days when the winds are calm enough to fish.
