Delaware fishing report

Despite frigid air and water temperatures, there are still a few fishermen trying their luck along the Indian River Inlet and Ocean City Inlet jetties. While the primary target has been the smaller rockfish that winter over in the local inlets, there haven’t been many reports of success. There also have been a few die-hard surf fishermen on the local beaches when weather conditions are suitable, but with water temperatures barely above the freezing mark, catch reports have been limited to an occasional horn dog shark. Surf reports from the Outer Banks also have been pretty slow, with some action on puppy drum reported from the beach near Hatteras Inlet. Boaters fishing the inshore waters between Oregon Inlet and Rudee Inlet had another good week of striped bass fishing, with limits of big fish at the top of most catch reports. Captain Bob Robinson of the Rudee Inlet charter Fin Seeker said bigger concentrations of stripers are located inside the three-mile line, with schools of big fish starting to move back toward Virginia waters. With water temperatures slowly starting to rise off the Outer Banks, Robinson predicted another three weeks or so of quality fishing before the fish start their annual migration back to the north.
