He ended up on a boat in Virginia Beach, spending a day on the water competing in the opening round of the inaugural Million Dollar Rockfish Challenge that concludes today at Marina Shores.
The grandson of the late Dale Earnhardt, Jeffrey instantly was impressed by the dedication and skill of anglers in the field.
“It was very cold but a whole lot of fun,” said the 21-year-old who will drive the Fuel Doctor Chevy for Rick Ware Racing in the Camping World Truck Series. “My grandfather fished all the time and dad (Kerry) does the same thing. I’ve done a lot of bass fishing… pond fishing. I’ve gone deep-sea fishing a couple of times, but I’ve never done anything like this.
“This fishing world is pretty cool and these guys are hard-core.”
