Work on Rudee inlet bridge set for nighttime

Most of the work scheduled for the Rudee Inlet bridge will be performed at night until the end of the ocean striped bass season.

Work to the fender piles, timber wales and hardware that protect the two center channel sets of pilings will begin in mid-January. The project is supposed to be completed by May.

User groups impressed upon the city, during a November discussion about the project, the need to perform the work at night to not disrupt the striper season.

As many as 500 boats a day leave and enter the inlet during the coastal rockfish season. Charter fees, hotel rooms, meals, fuel and taxes each day account for thousands of dollars of city revenue during the season.

Once the coastal season closes March 31, work will be performed at various times during the day and night.
