During this year’s White Marlin Open tournament, anglers on the West Ocean City-based Billfisher broke the single-day record for marlin catch-and-release with 26.
"People thought that was absolutely amazing," said Marty Gary, a fisheries ecologist with the state Department of Natural Resources.
The record didn’t stand long. A few days later on Aug. 30, Capt. John Duffie and his crew aboard the Billfisher caught and released 57 white marlin.
