Striped Bass Fishing Report

On days when winds and seas have been calm enough for local anglers to anchor up over the wrecks and reefs off of Delmarva, catch reports have indicated good fishing for some nice tautog. Sue Foster at Oyster Bay Tackle reported tog up to 17 pounds being caught by anglers fishing aboard the Morning Star with Captain Monty Hawkins. The most consistent action has been coming from the deeper wrecks and structure where bottom temperatures are a few degrees warmer than they are on the inshore snags. Fishermen focusing on blackfish are baiting with a variety of offerings, including clams, white leggers, green crabs, frozen whole shrimp and frozen sand fleas. With water temperatures in the mid-30s along the coast, there haven’t been any reports of success from surf fishermen. Even the dogfish sharks and skates seem to have abandoned the local beaches.
