Catch reports from trollers running out of the Virginia Beach Fishing Center Marina indicated excellent action on jumbo stripers, with more than a dozen fish over 40 pounds weighed in during the past week. Topping the list was a 54-pound trophy caught by David Strabavy. Cold water temperatures at the mouth of the Chesapeake have pushed the bigger fish to the south, with some of the best action coming from the waters between False Cape and Corolla. Puppy drum showed up in good numbers on the Outer Banks, with the area around the Frisco Pier especially hot for both drum and speckled trout. The OBX surf reports were passed along by the crew at Teach’s Lair Marina.
