It all came together as never before. Bay and air temperatures were warming nicely, fuel prices were low enough that fishermen could afford to fill their tanks, stripers were spread out the length of Maryland’s share of the Chesapeake, there was little if any breeze, and it all added up to what was likely the best opening day of Maryland’s spring trophy rockfish since DNR tightened regulations nearly 20 years ago. It was a slam dunk.
