Outdoors: Peak rockfish trophy outlook spawns for Chesapeake

Saturday is the big day as Maryland’s spring trophy striped bass season opens in the main stem of the Chesapeake.

Courtesy Photo Jim Kasper, skipper of Morning Angel, with a 35-inch striped bass taken on a white Bernie Michael Bullet Nose bucktail with 6-inch Sassy Shad added at the Bay Bridge. The fish was released.

The outlook couldn’t be much better for the big day what with some big female fish exiting the spawning grounds notably the Potomac, Patuxent, Nanticoke and Choptank Rivers following a successful spawn – and others still en route to spawn.
