2008 Striped Bass World Championship

 THE 11TH ANNUAL MERCURY STRIPED BASS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

–Two-month event begins November 1st —

 

(Virginia Beach, Va., October 24, 2008) – Fisherman from far and wide once again will  head to the Hampton Roads region to test their skill in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay during the 11th Annual Mercury Striped Bass World Championship (SBWC), November 1, – December 31, 2008.  The two-month event presented by Cabela’s and Lynnhaven Marine will award hundreds of prizes, with $2,500 going to the lucky angler who lands the largest striped bass during the event.  Additional prize categories are available for juniors (age 16 and under), flyfishing release division, surf and pier and military anglers. Anglers may purchase tournament registrations at one of 30 official locations located throughout Hampton Roads.

The current Virginia state striped bass record is 73 pounds set January 23, 2008 by Fred Barnes of Chesapeake, VA.  The overall winner of the 2007 Striped Bass World Championship was Aaron Hofmeister of Reistertown, MD with a 56 pound 7 ounce lunker.
