I have spoken to many over the past few days about the exciting start to our season down in Hatteras. This past weekend we completed moving the boat down to the island, fishing our way down from VA and then fishing the remainder of the weekend from Hatteras. I am happy to report it was a very safe trip and we are excited now to be based out of Hatteras for the next few months!!!!! We finished up the weekend with the usual coolers full of dolphin (Mahi Mahi) and Wahoo….several of the mahi approaching citation range mind you……yes this early in the season!!….see attached pics… The most exciting event of the weekend came Saturday as we hooked into a MONSTER blue marlin!!!!!. The fish immediately began ripping line from the reel as if we had lassoed a freight train. The fight was on!!. For the next 20 minutes she steady pulled line as we cleared all obstacles out of the way and made ready for the fight. After ripping several more yards from the reel, the big blue turned back toward the boat and in the process BENT the 10/0 hook at which point the hook pulled and the fish swam away……..but not before giving us an exciting show for the day. The angler kept the bent hook as a souvenir for the "one that got away"…..and the leader chaffed up as if with sandpaper!! At least 8 other boats out of Hatteras also hooked Blues in the same area that day, one boat hooked 2 the same day!! Point being, The area is hot early this season with Blue Marlin. If you ever wanted to have a good shot at a legendary fight of a lifetime to catch a blue this is the time!!!!!!!! we are not sure exactly how long the action will stay in the area, but its great timing right now to head on down!!
